GENERAL FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for development of complex electro hydraulic and electromechanical components and systems that will become the new products of Moog, Inc. The incumbent, a fully trained professional, plans and conducts efforts requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Typically, the Design Engineer devises new approaches for the problems encountered.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
A variety of technical functions exist within the product Engineering Department. Reporting to the Product Engineering section head. on demanding projects he/she might work under the leadership of a Senior Design Engineer. The incumbent receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. He/She is expected to make independent and unreviewed decisions on routine technical matters. However, assistance is furnished on unusual problems and work is periodically reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.
The Design Engineer is a key contributor to the analysis, conceptual design, development, and testing of simple to complex test equipments to carrying out all performance and qualification tests for all aircraft group products. The products of Moog generally are unique for each customer. Therefore, most new applications require a special, tailored design, even though adaptation of existing designs always should be considered where appropriate. The Design Engineer generally will operate as part of a design/development team, which includes other Department engineers with his/her primary concern being component design. The incumbent must effectively coordinate the work of drafters, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
Under the technical direction of the Engineering Manager, Section Head or the team's lead engineer, the Design Engineer will then guide the evolution of the conceptual design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing. This requires some travel and the participation in presentations to customers.
The Design Engineer will apply creative skills to generate designs that fulfill the conflicting requirements of meeting performance goals, robustness over extreme conditions, minimum weight, awkward envelopes, and cost effectiveness. Successful mechanical designs require judicious material selection, effective use of stress analysis, and sometimes design of unique kinematic mechanisms. Successful electrical designs require intelligent component selection and effective use of thermal stress analysis. Circuit designs must be reliable and make optimal use of available space.
To be considered for the position of Design Engineer, a candidate should have have a BS Degree plus six years Maximum of design/development engineering experience. To fulfill the demands of design and development of new products the individual must have self starting instincts and strong analytical skills. A Mechanical Design Engineer should have a good sense of three dimensional spatial orientation and seasoned knowledge of mechanical hardware design. A Hydraulic Design Engineer should have solid knowledge of circuit design and a wide range of hydraulic elements.
Basic knowledge of closed loop control systems and good communication skills is also necessary..
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate should possess excellent technical skills in the Hydraulic Pump and Motor design used in aerospace application
1. Able to understand hydraulic elements (products) design requirements especially Hydraulic Pump and Motor
2. Possess experience in design of Hydraulic piston Pump or motor and it's application in Aerospace domain
3. Relevant experience in designing components of pump or Motor
4. Exposure to latest design softwares like Unigraphics, Ansysis, MathCAD etc..
7. Exposure to thermal and heat transfer calculations
8. Basic FEA awareness
9. Exposure to qualification and testing of Hydraulic elements especially in Pumps and Motor
10. Should possess strong engineering fundamentals in strength of materials,
Fluid mechanics, material science, manufacturing engineering, thermodynamics and heat transfer
The candidate should be able to independently carryout all basic engineering
Calculations and interpret Customer requirements to engineering specifications
11. Exposure to aerospace design standards
12. Should be able to Document designs, analysis, and test results with accurate and concise reports
